Tuition: $195

Course Schedule: Monday, July 28, 2025, through Friday, August 22, 2025

How to Enroll: An application is not required for my course. You may register for the course by paying the tuition to AP® Homeschoolers. Once you’ve paid the tuition, be sure to fill out my online Student Information Form so that I can complete your registration.

Materials/Technical Requirements: I will provide all materials for the course. You will not need to purchase a calculator as we will be using the College Board's Desmos online calculator. If you already have a physical calculator, you may use it in the class if you prefer.

Course Objective:

My AP Chemistry Prep course provides students with an instructive and engaging introduction to AP® Chemistry. While not required for success in my AP Chemistry course, my prep course is a valuable resource for students who want an early start in their learning of the AP Chemistry topics.

Course Description:

My course is time-flexible and student-friendly. The course is asynchronous with all material posted at the beginning of the course, but I will provide a schedule to help you stay on track. You will watch eight 1-hour video lectures that cover the course topics. Each video has a timeline transcript allowing you to go back and rewatch segments or fast-forward to skip parts you already understand. You can have a classroom “lecture” experience on your schedule rather than having to be present for a live lecture. Each video has lab demonstrations that make each chemistry topic come alive.

My AP Chemistry Prep course covers the first four topics that would typically be taught in an AP Chemistry course. In AP Chemistry, each topic builds on the previous topic. So, each video lecture has interactive instructional exercises and an associated PDF summary so that you can be confident that you understand the material before moving on to the next topic.

  • Units and Measurements
  • Atoms, Elements, Compounds, and the Periodic Table
  • Chemical Reactions and Matter
  • Chemical Reactions and Energy

Course Delivery:

I deliver my AP Chemistry Prep course using Cengage’s WebAssign learning platform. When you log in to WebAssign, you will be able to go to all the video lectures/demonstrations, review exercises, summaries, and the discussion board. None of your work will be graded but, as you answer the WebAssign questions, you will get immediate feedback on whether your answer is correct. The exercises are designed to allow you to practice as you are learning.

The College Board administers a digital-hybrid AP Chemistry exam. My WebAssign software platform presents the interactive, instructional exercises in the same format as the College Board Bluebook. The Bluebook periodic table, equation sheets, and Desmos calculator are included with each exercise in my prep course.

Discussion Board:

You will always be able to get personalized help using my Discussion Board, a private virtual classroom, which is available 24/7. With its multi-media capabilities, I use graphs, images, diagrams, videos, and links to other helpful resources to give you detailed answers to your questions. I monitor the discussion board throughout the day, five days a week to make sure that student questions are answered promptly.

Teacher Qualifications:

I am a State of Michigan certified chemistry teacher who taught both Honors and AP® Chemistry in one of the top-ranked public-school systems in the country for over 35 years. I have been a master teacher with Pennsylvania Homeschoolers now for 18 years. I received a BS in Science and a Master of Science Education degree at Wayne State University. I have worked with numerous National Science Foundation teacher programs and, as part of my Master's program, I worked with the Fairleigh Dickinson University Lab in St Croix, monitoring coral reef oxygen respiration rates. I was sponsored by the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at Princeton. While working for the National Science Foundation's Project Seraphim, I led workshops for chemistry teachers around the country, developed computer software applications for chemistry education, and hosted an international Internet Conference, CHYMNET, for chemistry educators. I have completed the College Board Institute Program for teaching AP® Chemistry and am an active participant in the College Board's AP® Chemistry Teachers Community. I have written science questions for the Michigan Educational Assessment Test, the ACT Assessment® Test, and have served as a reviewer for Cengage’s WebAssign® chemistry question database. I have also edited articles for the Journal of Chemical Education.

In 2003, I was recognized as an inspiring, distinguished teacher, and received the prestigious Presidential Scholars Teacher Recognition Award. This honor is awarded to only one hundred teachers in the United States each year. At the reception, held in Washington, D.C., I had the honor of dining with Mrs. Bush, the First Lady.

Teaching chemistry has been my life-long passion, and I love sharing my knowledge and experience with my students. As a dedicated caring teacher, I’m committed to delivering a rigorous course that prepares students to excel on the AP® Chemistry Exam while also preparing them for success in college chemistry and beyond. I have taught thousands of students over the years and have watched their successes in both their academic and professional lives. Even though AP Chemistry is challenging, I work hard to make my lessons engaging, interactive and fun. I take immense pleasure in helping my students master and, at the same time, experience the wonder and joy of chemistry. My commitment to my students does not end with the AP® Exam. I have written numerous recommendations for students and am proud that they have gone on to prestigious colleges and universities around the world. These include all the U.S. Military Academies, MIT, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Rutgers, Cornell, Oxford University, the National University of Singapore, and most of the top US State Colleges.

While taking my prep course, you will have a supportive teacher who will help you get an early start in your learning of the AP Chemistry topics.
