AP PreCalculus Reviews

My Experience

Posted by Hannah Hornkohl on 06/25/2026

This class was excellent overall. The teacher is highly willing to answer questions and so are the teacher's assistants. I am thankful that there is a live class at least once a week. I have been in other AP classes that have no live component at all--as a result, I have felt disconnected from the teachers and had fewer opportunities to go over the material. I love that Mrs. Chan gives significant opportunities for extra credit. There were times in the class when I struggled (for instance, I got the equivalent of a C on my Unit 3 exam), but the extra credit helped me to reach my desired final grade, a high A. In short, I succeeded in this class. And most importantly, I felt prepared for the exam.

The class took me around eight hours per week of work, on average. But I tend to spend longer on things than many students for no clear reason, so other students may find the class less time-consuming. But beware, you will spend an incredible amount of time on the class at the end of review period. There are three full-length AP Classroom practice tests that are given on top of other review material. But it will be for the best when you sit for the AP exam.

I wish that we could have attended live lectures during the exam preparation/Mathmedic period. It would have been nice to have that extra support. There was also less consistency in weekly discussion board posting during the review period (an updated discussion board was not necessarily posted each week). That meant that it was harder to ask questions to the teacher's assistants.

Additionally, the Mathmedic, our main exam preparation tool, was not perfect. There were parts of the FRQ (the end of FRQ 2, specifically) that were different on the Mathmedic tests than on AP Classroom practice tests and even the actual exam. As a result, I was not prepared for the last few parts of FRQ 2 (and may honestly have wrote some nonsense for one part of FRQ 2 just to answer the question). It doesn't make much of a difference, nor was it a mistake on part of the teacher. Hopefully Mathmedic will update their curriculum to reflect current test standards more accurately.

That said, you will almost certainly earn a 4 or 5 on your exam if you take this class, and you will also be prepared for calculus. I'm so grateful that College Board has created this class, because it is very worthwhile. What's more, it is well-taught here at PAH.

AP PreCalculus Review

Taking AP Precalculus with Ms. Chan was one of the most challenging and rewarding academic experiences I have had. The course pushed me to think beyond memorizing formulas and instead develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and problem solving. The lessons, assignments, and assessments prepared me well for the AP exam and helped me build confidence in my ability to tackle advanced mathematics. Most importantly, this class strengthened both my mathematical skills and my enjoyment of the subject, and I feel much better prepared to continue into calculus and other higher-level math courses.

Efficient and effective with resources to help students

This course was great! It was my first time taking an AP class, but I was able to understand the topics well thanks to the videos and worksheets. I personally learn better with worksheets so they were a big help to building my understanding of the topic. It was reassuring that if I didn't understand the topic or a question there was always a video available by Ms. Chan for me to look back on. Great course with great resources!

Excellent class and teacher

The content in this class is excellent. It is a rigorous class, but, manageable. Amelia does a great job of explaining in the live lecture. She responds quickly to questions and emails. My husband wishes he had this class in high school as it would have better prepared him for Calculus. Our son is thriving in her class. Highly recommend this course with Amelia.

This AP Precalculus class is highly effective, with topics and homework closely aligned with the actual AP exam. By directly engaging with the lessons and completing the assignments, students get valuable practice for both multiple-choice and free-response questions, making it excellent preparation for the test.

AP PreCalculus with Amelia Chan

I enjoyed this class! I learned a lot and was very-well prepared for the AP PreCalculus exam. Ms. Chan is an amazing teacher. She really helped and guided me through the course, quickly answering all the questions I asked with clear, concise responses. She was very patient and encouraging when we made mistakes, telling us that it was all right to have errors, and that they are a learning experience. I would highly recommend taking her class.

AP Precalculus by Ms. Chan

This AP Precalculus course from Ms. Chan has been great. The comprehensive curriculum covers functions, trigonometry, and calculus fundamentals with depth and clarity. Preparation for the AP exam was thorough, with practice exams and review lessons to help us get a good score on the exam. I was able to achieve a score of 5 on the exam thanks to the extensive review. Overall, this course has not only strengthened my mathematical skills but also prepared me for future academic challenges. On average, I put in about an hour and thirty minutes of time into this course per day. I highly recommend this course for anyone that is willing to put in the work and master the fundamentals of precalculus.

Great class!

This is a great class for anyone wanting to take AP Precalculus.  There's one class every week which is very hands on and intereactive. During the week there's a lot of independent studying so you'll need to be good at that and managing your time. I was doing around 2 hours a day of work which is more than indicated but thats probably due to being slightly behind this level of maths before beginning this course. Ms. Chan is a very good teacher and responds quickly to any questions.

Excellent PreCalculus course

This was an excellent course! Mrs. Chan does a great job prepping students for the AP PreCalculus exam, and she even covered some Precalculus topics the AP exam doesn’t test on (but are still important to know for when you take Calculus). In addition, Mrs. Chan was very helpful in responding to any questions I had about the course or topics we covered in the course. Also, she had great TAs who answered any problem-specific questions I had. It is a challenging and time-consuming course, and you have to work hard to get a good grade, but that can be said of any advanced math course. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in taking Precalculus.

Rigorous AP Prep

Ms. Chan is a kind teacher who wants to help her students. She responds very quickly to emails. I feel prepared for calculus thanks to her class. If you are good at math and willing to learn challenging material, this class is a good fit for you! She covers the material at a fast pace in order to leave a full month for AP prep. While I found some of the tests challenging and didn't always feel prepared for those, I discovered that I scored quite well on the AP practice exams. I would advise taking advantage of any extra credit opportunities since the class is so rigorous. The live class ends around spring break, so there is more time for studying for the AP.
