AP European Hist Reviews

Truly One of the Best Classes I’ve Ever Taken (not an exaggeration!)

Posted by Lydia Muniz on 05/30/2025

Last summer, I would have said that (second only to math) history was my least favorite subject. But now, after completing AP Euro with Mr. Munson, that has completely changed. Taking this class has allowed me to finally look beyond what I thought were the "boring facts" and to see their deeper meaning and impact on all of history. Each of the assignments emphasize the importance of making connections between all units, focusing on causation and consequences, similarities and differences.

The weekly classes were extremely helpful and were my favorite part of the course. Mr. Munson’s kindness and overall enthusiasm for what he teaches extends to every part of the class, making it such a fun learning experience for everyone. In the meetings he gave so much time to each one of us and was willing to help us in any way that would lead to our success.

The course load carries the typical weight of an AP class but assignments are organized in such a way that is not overwhelming and allows students to gradually build up to mastery: for example, in the first weeks of class, Mr. Munson does not just assign 3 full DBQs or LEQs, but starts out with just an introduction or just 2-3 body paragraphs at a time, so that in a couple months, you will feel more than prepared to write the whole thing. And because of the great balance between FRQ and MCQ prep throughout the entire year, by exam time in May, you will feel 100% prepared to take it and receive a high score.

So, I would give AP Euro with Mr. Munson a 10/10 recommendation, and I hope you enjoy this class as much as I did! :)

    Amazing Course

This class has a ton to offer: great interactive readings, consistent exam preparation, and constantly fascinating lectures. However, the best part of this class is, without a doubt, the teacher. Mr. Munson is a dedicated and incredibly skilled educator. His lectures were an absolute highlight of the course, and the way he presents European history allows students to connect deeply with the course content. More than that, though, he is a joy to learn from, and you would be hard-pressed to find a more devoted, caring teacher.

The class is quite structured, with near-daily assignments and a good balance of exam prep and more general materials. While assignments are frequent, none are particularly tedious or time-intensive. That said, even if you do fall behind on work, Mr. Munson is super supportive and will help you catch up! As for the AP exam, I felt incredibly prepared from in-class work alone, though utilizing other study resources does help complement lecture content and readings.

Overall, this class not only deepened my knowledge of European history but fundamentally transformed my understanding of and interest in the subject. It can be easy to view history as a linear, chronological progression, but Mr. Munson ensures that students see the breadth and complexities of historical events, forcing students to interrogate their surface-level understandings and analyze broader trends. This class is a must-take for any students interested in history or the humanities generally, and Mr. Munson is a fantastic teacher.

      Terrific Course!

Did you feel the course prepared you for the AP exam?

I do feel this course prepared me for the AP exam. (This is evidenced by the high score I received on the exam.) Through Mr. Munson's excellent teaching of content, his useful written and multiple choice assignments, and his assigned SAQs, DBQs, and LEQs, I felt prepared on test day. The exam written questions even seemed somewhat easy as I recalled the information and used the skills Mr. Munson taught our class.

Did the course enhance your interest in the subject?

This course definitely did enhance my interest in European History. I have also found it very interesting to look at current events and connect them to the portion of Europe's past that I have learned.

What sort of student would do well in this course? Would you recommend this course to other students (if they are willing to work hard!)?

A student with an interest in learning European History would do well in this course. (That seems obvious, but it is definitely true--it is the motivation I needed to make it through the large history textbook we studied.) I would definitely recommend this course to other students if they are willing to work hard. I have learned a ton from this course, and now feel like I can join in conversations my family has about subjects relating to European History (the Protestant Reformation, WWII, the Cold War, etc.)
