AP Chem with Kernion
Posted by Jacob Sharpe on 05/18/2026This was a great class overall an I learned a lot. This class went in depth into all the chemistry you needed to know for the exam. I think the pace of this course was good, although a little fast. I will say this course is only for those who are good at self pacing and making themselves do work. Most of the course isn't graded and to really grasp the material you still have to do it, so if your the kind of student who needs a parent to tell you to do homework, this course isn't for you. Overall Mr. Kernion was a great teacher and very nice and I highly recommend this class.

My high school chemistry teacher was not good at teaching and I didn't learn much from him, so I was worried because I wanted to take AP chemistry. So, I signed up for this class last summer and was so astonished by how much I could learn in one hour. Mr. Kernion hosted 8 one-hour sessions and each hour with him changed me and the amount of knowledge I have enormously. I was so touched when I realized I could finally name compounds and write their formulas based on the name. It feels like magic especially because Mr. Kernion spends so much time telling us that we can't know the stuff too well (lol) and still teaches so much. I signed up for Mr. Kernion's AP Chemistry course as well immediately after the first hour because I knew his course would be the most valuable AP chemistry course out there. If you're don't know whether you should take ap chemistry or not, or just looking to see your knowledge level in the topic, 100% take this course. There's no grades in this course which means no risk and you can figure out your next course of action easily.

He treated me with an unfair amount of kindness and attention and has definitely earned a great deal of my respect. Throughout the time that I have known him, he has shown an undeniable amount of knowledge in his field. He truly does know chemistry like the back of his hand, and I've never seen anyone more educated in a subject than him. Mr. Kernion has definitely been my favorite teacher this year, my only regret is that I wish I could give him more than just my lowly words. If anyone is reading this and thinking about learning under his guidance, there is no teacher on earth I would recommend higher than Mr. Kernion.
