Great class!
Posted by Max Chandler on 05/20/2026I enjoyed this class a lot. I particularly appreciated the interesting discussions we got to participate in, spanning philosophy, journalism, rhetoric, dystopia, analyses of speeches, etc. We were challenged to view things from a variety of perspectives and analyze other views.
Live classes are primarily discussion-driven and were generally very engaging.
The classwork also affords extensive flexibility and freedom. I had a lot of freedom in our writing or project topics, which made it easy to feel passionate about what I was writing about. In addition, Ms. Kress was very flexible and effective in personalizing the class to the individual: modifying, extending, or waiving assignments as needed.
My only struggle for this class was that, by default, the class does follow a structure with smaller, more frequent assignments (daily on weekdays) building on each other. There are many people that works great for, but I initially struggled adapting to that default setup, particularly since most of my prior classes use larger, weekly assignments. However, as I previously noted, Ms. Kress is very flexible if you contact her and is willing to personalize and adapt extensively to make the class work for each individual student, which was very valuable for me, and meant that didn't end up being a very significant issue for me.
When it came time for the AP exam, I felt well prepared with all the skills, practice, and discussions that I took out of this class.
I would recommend this class to other students who are eager to learn and be challenged!
Class Review
Posted by Analiese Spencer on 05/19/2026I absolutely loved this class! Although challenging, it's so enjoyable, and Ms. Kress is an amazing teacher who helped me improve as a writer and taught me so many different things that ultimately prepared me for both the AP Exam and writing experiences to come.
I also appreciated how Ms. Kress would make the classroom very welcoming to different opinions and open to hard topics; this helped me see all kinds of different perspectives. Additionally, although I was already interested in writing, this class amplified my love for it, and I truly enjoyed the assignments.
Overall, I definitely recommend this class to anyone who is willing to work hard and loves to have meaningful discussions! :)
AP Lang Review
Posted by Julia Christy Stepp on 05/18/2026Ms. Kress is kind, understanding, and helpful, and she is good at giving personalized feedback. This class is a lot of work, but the assignments effectively taught me the AP Lang skills of evaluating sources, analyzing texts, and crafting arguments, and I felt prepared for the AP exam! I also learned a lot about the world in general, and my critical thinking skills definitely improved.
Class Review
Posted by Ryan DeLonay on 05/11/2026This AP Language and Composition class helped me to grow as an analytical reader and a writer. Throughout the year I feel like I was able to make progress on my writing skills for all three of the essay types. The class discussions and assigned readings introduced interesting perspectives and encouraged critical thinking. Although the workload could be demanding sometimes, I think it has been good preparation for timed writing and higher education expectations. I also appreciated the feedback that my teacher gave for all of my essays. Overall, this AP Language and Composition class was a valuable experience.

Excellent Course and Teacher.
Posted by William Yeoh on 05/08/2026I really enjoyed taking AP English and Language with Ms. Kress this year! She is super engaging, kind, and thoughtful, taking every opinion or perspective from her students with the upmost respect. Through our readings of news articles, short stories, and novels, we were able to see the concepts we were studying put into action. Anytime one of us had a question or problem with an essay, Ms. Kress instantly made herself available to call. Overall, it was a really wonderful class, and I feel my rhetorical skills have been improved because of it!
Awesome English Class!
Posted by Tarah DeLonay on 05/07/2026I loved this English class! I thought that the content helped prepare me not only for the AP test, but for the real world. We learned how to write in various styles, and we got to hear from experts on topics such as philosophy.
I loved that we got to read different books. I also enjoyed the ability to craft our own assignments and to decide what we read. Ms. Kress gave very helpful feedback on all of our assignments and guided the class through the steps of how to be a good writer. I felt like I learned a lot about the writing process and how to craft a persuasive argument.
Ms. Kress did a great job facilitating communication between students! Almost every week, one of our daily assignments was to respond to or give feedback to another student. The weekly class time was very beneficial as Ms. Kress created thorough and interesting lessons that helped us dive deeper into the subject matter.
Finally, Ms. Kress was wonderful at paying attention to every student and personally responding to the needs and questions that any student had about the course content. She was also really considerate if a student needed an extension or extra help.
My Favorite Class By Far!
Posted by Reid Phillips on 05/06/2026AP English Language has been far and away the most enjoyable, and informative classes of the year. Despite never meeting her in person, Ms. Kress is one of my favorite teachers that I have ever had. She always worked with me to find solutions to problems that I may be facing, when some teachers would leave me on my own to problem solve or fix the issue.
One of the biggest advantages of doing online school is the flexibility. However, there are some classes that I took this year that simply did not allow that. The teachers did not fit with that model of flexibility, Ms. Kress could not have been further from that. Whenever I was out of town due to travel or when I missed work for any reason, she was always just an email away willing to help me find a way to complete the work and stay caught up on the class.
Overall, thank you Ms. Kress for everything that you have taught me and all the rest of my classmates. You have always been there for us, even making sure to work in some lighter work loads when you notice us struggling a little bit. You have been absolutely amazing and I am forever grateful for you! I truly mean that!
Best English Class Ever!
Posted by Zoe Ganatra on 05/06/2026Despite Ms. Kress's incredible effect on my writing over the past year, I barely have the words to describe how much I loved this class!
Firstly, this class was the perfect balance between honing my writing and debate skills and prepping for the exam. Our thematic units appealed to each student's aspirations while building the skills needed to do well on the exam. While the homework load was often demanding, the pace of the course made each reading/assignment different, and I absolutely felt that the coursework load was appropriate.
Flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of an online, asynchronous class, but it can often make peer interaction a challenge! However, this class offered many opportunities for student interaction, including daily discussions and occasional book clubs, which made it a truly enjoyable experience. I met some really awesome people through this class, who I hope to stay in touch with for years to come.
While I could go on and on about everything I enjoyed about this class, Ms. Kress is truly a gem of a teacher that any future student would be so lucky to have! Every time I received feedback on an essay, I felt that she pushed me to be a better writer. She always meets students where they are at, and I always felt both supported and challenged.
Intense, creative, and helpful!
Posted by Sonnet Carter on 05/06/2026I truly enjoyed this class, and I'm not simply saying that out of obligation. As someone who can easily lose focus on a topic and gets bored fairly easy, Ms. Kress made it incredibly easy to stay engaged with rhetoric throughout the course. For instance, the class was divided up into "themes," where we'd learn about rhetoric through a differente lense each theme (this year, the themes were politics, the law, and journalism). We also were able to choose what to write about several times, and we had several assignments that weren't directly like the AP essays but still greatly contributed to AP skills. There were definitely many "AP" assignments as well, but they were paired with more engaging material and new ways to learn. One of my most fun assignments that I can remember involved reading Poe's Masque of the Red Death, and then conducting an AP-style rhetorical analysis on it. Since I love reading Poe anyways, it was so fun to be able to write my thoughts on this story -- learning more about my favorite author as well as gaining AP skills!
While a good majority of the work was genuinely interesting to do, this class is very reading and writing intensive (not that you don't already know that from the title XD). It requires a lot of persistence to get through the homework -- even though it's fun -- and is pretty time-consuming. If you're considering taking this class, be prepared to write a lot, and if you take a long time with writing like me, be prepared to spend a long time writing/reading. That being said, I do believe that 99.9999999% of the assignments either contributed to AP skills, or life skills.
I would also like to highlight that this teacher is incredibly communicative, and completely understanding. Being the overthinker that I am, I'm afraid I plagued Ms. Kress with many emails each month for clarification on an assignment, requests for extensions/waives, and questions about a certain writing technique. Without fail, Ms. Kress responded to every single one of my emails enthusiastically. She challenges us students, but also is always ready to grant extensions when life circumstances call for one, and continually reminded us that our worth was more than our grade. Genuinely, this is one of the most encouraging classes I've had all year.
So all in all, I would highly recommend this class, and I left with understanding of my writing skills as well as real-world applications.
